About Osteopathy

Osteopathy is a distinctive system of manual diagnosis and treatment to help reestablish the body's normal function. The philosophy of osteopathy is to treat the whole person not only the symptoms. It helps to alleviate pain from biomechanical imbalances of the body, pain from injury and chronic pain.

What osteopaths treat?

Registered Osteopaths

Osteopaths are intensively trained to assess mechanical dysfunction of the skeletal system (i.e. spine, joints, muscles, ligaments and tendons). We use an established system of diagnosis and treatment which consists of palpation, mobility testing and orthopedic testing of the affected area.

Depending on the problem the osteopath may consider necessary to carry out more specific tests such as blood tests, X-Ray or MRI. If this is the case arrangements will be made for you to be referred to either your GP or if you preferred, you can be sent directly to a radiological centre for X-ray or MRI or to a lab for blood or urine analysis.

Osteopaths are regulated by the General Osteopathic Council ( GOsC ) http://www.osteopathy.org.uk/. All osteopaths registered with GOsC have achieved high standard qualifications and it is a criminal offence to call yourself an osteopath if you are not registered with the General Osteopathic Council. All Osteopaths at the Notting Hill Ostecare are fully registered; therefore we comply with our professional regulatory body.
